Dr. Farhad Syed joined Yale Health in 2023 as part of Mental Health and Counseling’s Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology. He received both his master’s and doctorate degrees from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to joining the fellowship program at Yale, Dr. Syed worked in a variety of practices, including the University of Connecticut’s Student Health and Wellness Center, the Khalil Center, a Muslim psychological care clinic, and Mount Sinai – Chicago’s Under the Rainbow child and adolescent clinic.

Dr. Syed has deep curiosity in working with psychopathology and mental health issues across the lifespan but has a special interest in with college-aged individuals who are undergoing a variety of identity-based and psychologically-oriented transitions. Dr. Syed’s therapeutic style utilizes Emotion-Focused Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy to provide meaningful, process-oriented psychotherapy to clients, which helps individuals attune to the moment-by-moment process of unfolding emotions and insight into the dynamics of the psychotherapy relationship. In addition to working with college-aged individuals, Dr. Syed has a specific interest in working with individuals who are culturally diverse, specifically individuals with a South Asian background. Additionally, Dr. Syed enjoys working with individuals who are interested in addressing faith and spiritual concerns in psychotherapy and need help in navigating this aspect of their life.
