Emergencies and After Hours
When possible, call Acute Care at 203-432-0123 before going to the Emergency Department. Yale New Haven Hospital operates Emergency Departments at the following locations:
- Yale New Haven Hospital Main Campus, 20 York St., New Haven
- YNHH - Saint Raphael Campus, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven
- YNHH - Shoreline Medical Center, 111 Goose Lane, Guilford
When you call and let us know you are going to the Emergency Department, a nurse can follow up on your care and make sure that your primary care clinician knows as well. If you are unable to call before you go, be sure to call the Referrals Department at 203-432-7397 within 48 hours of receiving care.
If you are out of state and need emergency care you can go to any medical facility. If you receive emergency treatment, please call 203-432-0123 beforehand, and if possible, notify the Referrals Department within 48 hours by calling 203-432-7397 or 877-947-2273.
Remember to carry your Yale Health ID card with you at all times. It can provide valuable information if you cannot communicate during an emergency.
After Hours
After-hours is defined as after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, as well as on weekends and holidays.
If you aren’t sure how serious your problem is, call Acute Care at 203-432-0123, where you can speak to a triage nurse 24/7 who will help you determine a plan of action. For in-person after-hours care, you may be referred to our network hospital, Yale New Haven Hospital, at one of the three following locations:
- Yale New Haven Hospital Main Campus, 20 York St., New Haven
- YNHH - Saint Raphael Campus, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven
- YNHH - Shoreline Medical Center, 111 Goose Lane, Guilford

For copays, after-hours is defined as:
- Monday - Friday, 6 p.m. - 7:59 a.m.
- Weekends
- University holidays and recess days
