Let Yale Health be your partner in building the family of your dreams.

Understanding Infertility

Yale Health defines infertility as a person's inability to reproduce without medical intervention, whether as a single individual or with a partner, based on a licensed physician’s findings from a patient’s medical, sexual, and reproductive history, age, physical findings or diagnostic testing. This means that if you are unable to conceive individually or with your partner, you would qualify for fertility services.

LGBTQ+ Inclusive Care

Our services include all family structures. Whether you are a same-sex couple or a single individual seeking to become a parent, we provide the care and support you need to achieve your family building goals.

  • Individuals with uteruses can access intrauterine insemination using donor sperm.
  • Transgender individuals may explore fertility preservation options before gender-affirming treatments.
  • Those assigned male at birth have an IVF cycle allotment, which can be used for donor tissue if their specific plan includes donor tissue.

We respect the diversity of families and strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone can access the care they need.

Donor Tissue

For some, donor tissue is necessary in their family building journey. Donor tissue is defined as the procurement and use of eggs, embryos, and sperm necessary to provide for the ability to establish a pregnancy when one or the other or both are unavailable in the person or couple pursuing a pregnancy.

Surrogacy and Donor Tissue
In cases where neither individual can become pregnant, they are still granted their allotted IVF cycles as outlined in their plan type. If you are using a surrogate, these cycle equivalents can be used for donor tissue, embryo fertilization, and embryo cryopreservation according to your plan. However, coverage does not extend to the transferring of the embryo to the surrogate.

Lifetime limits and coverage specifics may vary. Consulting the Yale Health Claims department is crucial for understanding applicable deductions, payment percentages, and maximum benefit limits.
