Eye Drop Recall

On February 26, the FDA issued a warning to immediately stop using and discard certain eye ointment products. Although Yale Health Pharmacy does not stock the listed eye ointments for our members, we feel it is important to share this information should they have been purchased at a local retail pharmacy.

The FDA website has detailed information and images of the recalled items.

The FDA has issued a warning due to the potential lack of sterility assurance, with the potential risk of eye infections or related harm. The products (listed below) are used to treat dry eye symptoms and are commonly referred to as lubricating drops or artificial tears. This warning only applies to the products below.

What you should know:

  • They are marketed under different brands and may have been bought at retail pharmacies, including CVS, Walmart, and others.
  • If you have any of the products listed below, it is recommended that you properly dispose of them. This can be done by taking it to a local drug collection box or by disposing of it in the trash.
  • A safe alternative for use includes products made by Systane or Refresh.

Affected products:

  • Equate Lubricant Eye Ointment
  • Equate Stye Lubricant Eye Ointment
  • CVS Health Lubricant Eye Ointment
  • Lubricant PM Ointment
