Dr. Sabah Islam joined Yale Health in 2025 as a staff psychologist in Mental Health and Counseling. She earned her doctorate and master's degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Islam completed her predoctoral internship at Emory University CAPS, followed by her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University CAPS in outreach programming and social justice. Prior to joining Mental Health and Counseling, Dr. Islam worked with college aged students across various universities, high school settings, private practice, and community mental health clinics.
Dr. Islam has experience working with BIPoC students, women of color, South Asian & Asian identified students, Muslim students, and first-generation students. Her clinical interests include complex trauma (i.e., racial, religious, intergenerational, sexual, relational, etc.), identity development, immigrant and international student concerns, anxiety/depression, relationship issues, and family-of-origin concerns. She integrates multicultural, trauma-informed, and relational-cultural frameworks to appreciate clients within the contexts of their environments, acknowledge the impact of oppression on wellness through the safety of the therapeutic relationship. Her interests are heavily informed by her own identities as a brown, Bangladeshi-American, daughter of refugees.
