Michael Medvecky, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports-related injuries, particularly those involving the knee and shoulder. He treats a broad range of patients, from elite athletes to active individuals recovering from weekend injuries, and also provides trauma care at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center. His approach blends arthroscopic, traditional, and nonsurgical techniques tailored to each patient’s specific injury.
Dr. Medvecky emphasizes the importance of listening to patients as the foundation of accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. He believes that most diagnoses emerge from the patient’s story, which he pairs with physical exams and imaging to confirm the best course of action. As orthopaedics continues to evolve, he remains at the forefront of new treatments while maintaining a deeply personal and attentive approach to care.
An associate professor at Yale School of Medicine and vice chair for faculty affairs in orthopaedics, Dr. Medvecky also serves as team physician for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and the New England Black Wolves. He consults for Yale Athletics and has long been involved in community sports health and injury prevention. His efforts to promote safer athletic participation extend to statewide leadership through the Connecticut State Medical Society, and he is regularly recognized as a top doctor in Connecticut.
