Behavioral Health

Taking care of your mind is as essential as caring for your body. At Yale Health, providing mental health care to our members is a central part of our mission to care for every aspect of your health, so that you can live your best possible life.

Your Yale Health behavioral health benefit includes treatment for stress, depression, and anxiety as well as other mental health and substance use issues through Magellan Health Services. Treatment for covered mental health conditions and addictions is provided through a local network of private practitioners that includes:

  • licensed therapists,
  • psychiatrists,
  • clinical psychologists,
  • clinical social workers,
  • psychiatric clinical nurse specialists,
  • alcohol/drug counselors, and
  • affiliated organizations such as Yale New Haven Hospital.

Magellan Health Services recommends providers and authorizes treatment for therapy and counseling for members and their dependents.

Yale Health members do not need a referral from their primary care provider to call Magellan for therapy and counseling.

This benefit is available to all Clerical & Technical staff, Service & Maintenance staff, Yale Security staff, Managerial & Professional staff, Faculty, Post-Doctoral Associates & Fellows, and Yale Police Benevolent Association (YPBA) members. Students seeking therapy and counseling should contact the Mental Health & Counseling department.

    • Ask the Magellan clinician to find you the earliest possible appointment with an available provider. Magellan will call you back with the date and time of your appointment.
  • Find a Provider on the Magellan WebsiteComplete the “Provider Search” based on your location and needs. Contact your desired provider for an appointment. Once you have made an appointment, call Magellan for treatment authorization.

With Magellan, you also have access to a Digital Emotional Wellbeing program.

You will be asked to create an account to get the most from the program. This is completely confidential, and you can use your work or personal email address for this process.

As you register, you will be asked a series of questions about your interests and concerns. After this information is collected, you will receive suggestions tailored to your wellness and mental health. You can also download the NEUROFLOW app, which allows you to access these resources anytime, anywhere.
