Before starting medical school, I spent three summers conducting basic research on sponges at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Those formative experiences deepened my appreciation for scientific discovery and left me with a lasting fondness for Cape Cod, which remains one of my favorite places to return to.
