Jane Carter, PhD (She/Her)

Dr. Jane E.M. Carter joined Yale Health in 2020 as a postdoctoral fellow. She became a staff psychologist in 2021.  Prior to joining Yale Health, Dr. Carter was a predoctoral fellow completing her clinical internship through the Yale School of Medicine, at the Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven. She worked on the adult inpatient service, specializing in serious mental illness. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University (Gig 'em Aggs!).     

Dr. Carter’s career focus is on identity, attachment, and attachment-related trauma. Her clinical interests include personality disorders, psychotic disorders and interpersonal issues related to trauma as well as identity formation.  Dr. Carter keeps abreast on evidence-based and takes a recovery-oriented approach that integrates psychodynamic psychotherapy with behavioral and cognitive behavioral approaches. In the therapy room this means that Dr. Carter will take the time to get to know the person in front of her and will offer a collaborative conversation about both her observations and the knowledge from the field while also soliciting the person’s insights from their own life.
