About

Yale Health Endoscopy provides upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures for Yale Health members and students with Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage. A referral from your primary care provider is required. 

Procedures are performed under conscious sedation. Recovery time is approximately one hour.

Be sure to follow the instructions we mail to you. Preparation starts the day before your procedure. On the day of your procedure do not eat or drink anything. If you are taking medications, take them with a sip of water unless directed otherwise. Please arrive 1 hour before your procedure.

You must make arrangements for a family member or friend to pick you up at the Endoscopy Suite after your procedure. The medication given during the procedure may cause drowsiness, making it unsafe for you to drive home or take public transportation alone.

If you have pain, bleeding or black stools after your procedure call your primary care provider.

Appointment Information

Upon receipt of a referral from your treating provider, we will review your medical history and determine the appropriate facility for you. Patients who require anesthesia or have special needs will be referred to Yale-New Haven Hospital and scheduled at one of their locations for their procedure. All other patients will have their procedure at the Yale Health Center.

The facility will call you to schedule your appointment.

Medicare patients and students who have waived Yale Health Hospitalization Specialty Care coverage are not seen at Yale Health Endoscopy.
