Ophthalmology and Optometry

The Ophthalmology/Optometry Department provides comprehensive care and management of all eye problems. It performs routine eye exams and exams for eyeglass prescriptions.

Important information:

• The department does not measure, fit, or evaluate for contact lenses.
• Yale Health insurance does NOT cover contact lenses or eyeglasses.
• You should remove your contact lenses before your appointment and bring your eyeglasses with you.
• Your eyes may be dilated during the exam and may remain blurry or sensitive to light for up to a few hours.
• A referral is NOT required to see an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist in our department.***

Note: Medicare retirees are not eligible for eye care services at the Yale Health Center.

***Students who have waived Yale Health Hospitalization & Specialty Care coverage must seek services from providers who accept their insurance. They cannot be seen at Yale Health Ophthalmology and Optometry.

You can book appointments up to 12 months in advance.
