Female (Internal) Condoms

What is a female condom?

A female condom is a soft, loose-fitting, lubricated, polyurethane, latex-free sheath containing two flexible polyurethane rings. It prevents sperm from entering the vagina during ejaculation.

How effective is a female condom?

A female condom is 79% effective with typical use at preventing pregnancy. Using female condoms helps to reduce the risk of STI transmission.

How do you use a female condom?

The closed end of the sheath is inserted into the vagina. One ring lies inside against the cervix while the other ring remains outside, protecting both the labia and base of the penis.

  • A female condom should be used with a spermicidal lubricant.
  • A female condom should NOT be used in combination with a male condom.
  • It is intended for one time use only.
  • Quick tip: You can insert a female condom by putting in on the man's penis before intercourse.
