Making an Appointment

Yale Health now offers video and phone visits, as well as in-person visits.

You may schedule an appointment by contacting the department directly. Department phone numbers are available in the Yale Health Department Directory.

You can use MyChart to schedule your own appointments in Internal Medicine or Student Health. You may also use MyChart to request appointments.

If you have MyChart proxy access for your child, you can request an appointment with their primary care provider in Pediatrics.

When you have an unexpected illness or injury, we recommend beginning with a phone call to your primary care department (Internal MedicineStudent HealthPediatrics or Ob/Gyn). A nurse will call you back to discuss your symptoms. If you need to come in, we can offer you a same-day or next-day appointment that is convenient for you with your primary care provider or a member of their team.

In some cases, you may be advised to come to our Acute Care Department or to Specialty Services. After-hours and weekends, the triage nurses in Acute Care are always available by phone and can help you determine if you need to come in for an evaluation.

What is a Primary Care Provider?

Your primary care provider is the medical professional who see you regularly and knows you best. Yale Health believes that a close relationship with a primary care provider plays an essential role in providing efficient and personalized care.

Your primary care provider is at the center of a team of dedicated healthcare professionals who work together to serve you. Your primary care provider is also your access point for specialty care.

A primary care provider is randomly designated to you upon enrollment in Yale Health. Members in need of gynecologic care are designated with a PCP in the Ob/Gyn Department as well as the Internal Medicine Department. Children are designated with a PCP in the Pediatrics department.

If you would like to choose a different PCP, contact Member Services at 203-432-0246 to review the list of available providers.
