Erica Spatz, MD, MHS, is a general cardiologist who emphasizes prevention and personalized care in treating heart and circulatory conditions. She is also a researcher focused on preventing heart attacks and strokes, using precision medicine to tailor strategies based on each patient's unique risk factors, genetics, and life circumstances. This individualized approach enhances patient care by making prevention more relevant and effective.
Dr. Spatz advocates for a multi-level strategy to reduce heart disease, combining strong public health policies with personalized, tech-enabled assessments of cardiovascular risk. She believes that lifestyle changes—though challenging—can have significant impact when approached with achievable, realistic goals that fit into a person’s life context. Her focus is on long-term support rather than perfection, helping patients create healthier paths over time.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Spatz is a clinical investigator at Yale’s Center for Outcomes Research & Evaluation (CORE), where she studies healthcare quality, disparities, and patient engagement. She also co-founded Project Access-New Haven, a collaborative initiative providing donated specialty care to underserved populations in the community.
