Transgender Care at Yale Health for Students
Transgender care at Yale Health consists of a multidisciplinary team approach made up of primary clinicians, nurses, care managers, mental health clinicians, obstetric/gynecologists and endocrinologists. Our mission is to increase access to comprehensive, effective, and affirming health care services for trans persons.
We promise to respect your privacy and treat you with consideration and dignity. You will receive care that is responsive to your health care concerns and that is sensitive to you as a transgender patient. You play a critical role in partnering with Yale Health clinicians in your care.
The name that is listed in your medical record must be the legal name on your documentation for insurance and identification purposes. You may request that your preferred name and pronoun designation be added to your medical record.
Student Health (203-432-0312)
Your primary care clinician is an important resource. Communicating openly with your clinician is vital to receiving comprehensive medical care. It is important to have regular age appropriate screenings and health exams. Your primary care clinician will advise you on the recommended screenings and exams.
Obstetrics & Gynecology (203-432-0222)
The Obstetrics & Gynecology clinicians provide healthcare services such as Pap smear screenings, STI screenings, and contraceptive counseling. They also provide consultations for hysterectomy,and oophorectomy and information on oocyte preservation.
Care Management (203-436-5791)
A group of dedicated RNs who will assist you with navigating your care including any transition-related services. They can help you identify available treatment options and will provide ongoing support.
Mental Health & Counseling (203-432-0290)
Mental Health & Counseling clinicians are available to discuss issues involved in readiness which may include counseling, mental health treatment, and ongoing therapy.
Health Information Management/Medical Records (203-432-0062)
If you have a previous history of related treatment it is important that your Yale Health medical record is up to date. Our Health Information Management team will assist you in transferring your records.
Specialty Services – Endocrinology (203-432-0335)
If you are considering starting or continuing cross gender hormone therapy, your primary care clinician will refer you to an endocrinologist for evaluation. A letter of readiness from your mental health provider is required prior to beginning any treatments.
Note: All single occupancy bathrooms at Yale Health are designated as All Gender. These bathrooms are available in all clinical departments.
