Information for Yale Parents
Congratulations on your child’s acceptance to Yale University.
We know this is an exciting time in your life and want to put your mind at ease when it comes to your child’s health care.
Yale Health provides health services to Yale’s faculty, staff and students, mostly at the Yale Health Center at 55 Lock Street in New Haven. Additionally, Yale Health provides health coverage through Yale Health Basic coverage and comprehensive coverage through Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage.
The first thing you need to know is that ALL full-time students receive Yale Health Basic coverage services free of charge.
The second thing you need to know is that students are automatically enrolled in and charged a fee for Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage. If your student has other insurance you can choose to waive this coverage – but you MUST do it before the deadline!
Please review Health Coverage Overview for Students at Yale this will give you an understanding of the services all students have access to and help you with your decision about whether to waive Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage.
If you should have additional questions, feel free to contact the Member Services Department at member.services@yale.edu or 203-432-0246.
The last, but certainly not least thing to know about before your child comes to Yale is that there are health and immunization forms that must be completed by August 1st. Please review the appropriate (based on type of student) new student forms listed to the right and take them to your child’s health care provider as soon as possible to get the process started.
Yale Health prides itself on the exceptional care we give to students at Yale and we wish your child the best of health and happiness throughout their time here.
