Illness and Injury - Call First

When you have an unexpected illness or injury, we recommend beginning with a phone call to primary care provider (Internal Medicine, Ob/Gyn or Pediatrics). A nurse will call you back to discuss your symptoms. If you need to come in, we can offer you a same-day or next-day appointment that is convenient for you with your primary care clinician or a member of his or her team.

In some cases, you may be advised to come to our Acute Care Department or to Specialty Services at the Yale Health Center (55 Lock Street).

After-hours and on weekends, the triage nurses in Acute Care are always available by phone and can help you determine if you need to come in for an evaluation.

Note about Pediatrics:
Our pediatric triage team is available by phone Monday through Friday,
7:30 am–5:00 pm. After hours the Acute Care staff will contact the on-call pediatrician if necessary. A pediatric clinician is available in Acute Care to see patients with acute problems from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays and 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sundays and holidays.
