FAQs
- Do I need a referral?
Yes, referrals to our department are for a specific problem identified by a primary care clinician (PCC). Patients receive a referral to our department from a primary care clinician here at 55 Lock Street. The PCC sends the referral (request for an appointment with the clinical reasons for the consultation) to us and you will be contacted by our department with the appointment date and time options. Yale Health clinicians refer patients utilizing our clinical guidelines. The time standard for all new, non emergency appointments is within 4 weeks. - What happens if I need surgery? How is it arranged?

The pre-op scheduler will make all necessary pre-op appointments and arrange them with you over the phone. - What happens if I have an emergency that requires a surgical consultation?
The clinician who sees you in Acute Care, a primary care department or the hospital Emergency Department will arrange the appropriate consultation with a Yale Health network surgeon. - How will I receive my test results?
Results are communicated through follow-up visits or by a telephone call from our department.
