Who Can Be a Target of Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment can occur in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to the following:

  • The victim as well as the harasser may be a woman or a man - the victim does not have to be of the opposite sex.
  • Sexual harassment can occur between peers or between individuals with different degrees of power and status.
  • The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, an agent of the employer, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or a non-employee in the work place.
  • The victim does not have to be the person harassed but could be anyone reasonably affected by the offensive conduct.

What do you do if you are the target of sexual harassment or want to discuss a questionable experience?

  • Tell someone
  • Talk to a professional

  • Talk to a member of the Dean's Board on Sexual Harassment or Sexual Harassment Grievance Board, department chair, academic or residential dean, and/or member of the clergy.
  • Keep a record
  • Make a plan you are comfortable with.
