Our services

Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this fully-licensed inpatient unit offers evaluation and treatment for a variety of medical conditions. Supported by in-house radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy services, and 24 hour physician supervision, the Inpatient Care Department provides Yale Health members with timely and responsive care for a variety of medical issues.

The Inpatient Care Department is a unique facility, providing state-of-the-art medical treatment and therapies, in a restful and caring environment. Our services include:

• Admission for continued care of patients transferred from the hospital after surgery or serious illness, allowing for smoother transition from hospital to home
• Admission directly from any Yale Health clinic or from the Acute Care Department for further evaluation, diagnosis or treatment for a range of common medical problems
• Outpatient procedures (i.e. the administration of intravenous medication) which require skilled medical services but not an overnight stay
• Oncology services, including the administration of chemotherapy
• Physical therapy for inpatients

Coordinated care

A health care team consisting of our staff physicians and PA's, nurses, medical assistants and other appropriate specialty clinicians will work with you and your family, or others you designate, to design a plan of care. In addition, if your condition requires specialized services such as dietary planning or physical therapy, Yale Health staff from those areas will also be involved. Yale Health Care Coordination will help coordinate care that may be required when you return home, and will assist with scheduling follow-up appointments, transferring medical records and other tasks essential to your full recovery.

Dietary Considerations

A menu from which you can make selections is available for each meal. If your medical condition requires a special diet, your food will be prepared in accordance with those instructions.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day. We make every effort to accommodate special circumstances.

Representatives of many faiths are available for consultation and counseling upon request.

Admission to the Inpatient Care Department

Patients are admitted to the Inpatient Care Department from either the hospital, Acute Care or home, and admission must be authorized by a Yale Health clinician. While you are in Inpatient Care your care will be managed by our staff physicians and PA's.
