An Exercise in Heart Health


Lisa Kimmel, RD, will discuss "Strategies for becoming more active in a time-crunched world," as a part of our support series to promote self-management for patients (and families of patients) with chronic health conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease), and for general overall well-being.

Exercise Classes at Yale Health


Pilates Mat


The focus of Pilates is to build strength, improve flexibility, agility, posture and, balance.  Most of the exercises focus on strengthening the “core” (abs, back and hips), but this class also provides an intense total body workout.  Proper breathing and alignment techniques are always practiced throughout the class.  The series includes 12 sessions.

Cardio Kickboxing

Cardio kickboxing is an amazing aerobic experience, utilizing martial arts-based kickboxing techniques to increase muscle strength, cardiovascular conditioning, coordination, and balance.  No prior martial arts experience is necessary.  The series includes 12 sessions.

Heartsaver CPR & AED Class

The Heartsaver CPR & AED class is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult, child, and infant CPR, and how to relieve choking. Use of an AED will also be taught.

This course teaches skills with the American Heart Association’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

It is for Yale University staff or students with limited or no medical training. The course costs $25 per person. Payment will be accepted in either the exact cash amount or by check made out to Yale University. Payment is due when you pick up your student workbook.

Each class is limited to 12 participants. The class will take place in the Moreson H. Kaplan Conference Center at the Yale Health Center, 55 Lock Street.

Newborn Education Class

  • Learn about newborn care and how to promote the health of your baby
  • Become more familiar with the Department of Pediatrics
  • Be able to identify common newborn health issues and know when to call the Department of Pediatrics

Classes are offered monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month for women in their 32nd - 36th week of pregnancy.

Yale Health patients should call 203-432-0206 to register or stop by the Department of Pediatrics on the 3rd floor and speak to the receptionist.


Breastfeeding Class

  • Learn breastfeeding basics and how to get off to a great start
  • Discuss the "art of breastfeeding" and the joys and benefits it provides to you and your baby
  • Explore common concerns parents have about breastfeeding

Classes are offered monthly on the 4th Thursday of the month for women in their 32nd - 36th week of pregnancy.

Discount offered to Yale Health Members on Childbirth Education and Dancing Through Pregnancy Classes

WELL/A Mother's Place at Yale-New Haven Hospital is pleased to announce that Yale Health members who register for a 5-week childbirth preparation class at the Yale Health Center will receive a 10% employee discount.  The classes are offered at the Yale Health Center on Wednesday evenings.  In addition, any Yale Health member who attends the childbirth preparation class will also receive 10% off all nursing bras, breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies.  For more information about these classes, visit WELL/A Mother's Place at www.ynhh.org/well.

English as a Second Language Classes

Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven is offering free English as a Second Language classes every Friday from 4-6 pm at the Yale Health Center, 55 Lock St., Conference Center, 1st Floor.  These are conversation classes for people who want to develop their English communication skills.
